Dubai is a brilliant city to live in, no doubt about that ...but whats happening to it ..Ever since this Property business came into Dubai , Dubai has become a mess.....
A real big mess.
It takes too long to travel from place to place....Really way too long ....and the funny part is that when it seems that it cant get any worse...It does...Traffic just keeps on increasing ..the number of people in Dubai are increasing ....Its like stuffin a whole lot of jelly beans into a really really really tiny jar.....The space is limited .....How much more can Dubai handle?....Do u actually think Dubai will be able to last upto the time that the Dubai Metro comes up? Even if it does ....how much will the Dubai Metro help....We shall hav to wait and see...
Dubai is becoming way too expensive to live in...The rich will survive and it seems as if theyll be the only ones who will be able to survive....Whats gonna happen to the middle class...Every society needs a Middle class ...Who is going to do the common jobs??...
The buildings just seem to get taller and taller resulting in more accomodation resulting in more ppl resulting in more cars resulting in more traffic resulting in more ppl gettin pissed off/more reckless and rash driving resulting in accidents .....it could go on forever....
Dubai otherwise is a great city to live in....
What kind of an effect do u think Property has had on Dubai??
How long will this last for??
What in your opinion can be done to solve these problems??

oh well..dxb is a big mess at the moment n everything u said is true but i guess its all till the metro starts and then things will definately be better..
the main problem is that the dxb govt. started all this construction of dxb land, all these bldgs etc. and the metro stuff all together and so the traffic is at its peak..nvmind..

A very "thoughtful" post. We dont think about these problems very often, even tho v live in the city. The metro mite help u never noe it mite not so as u sed v'll just have to wait and watch. The govt was/is so involved in making plans for the rise of dubai as this hi-5 developed city that they forgot one teeny-tiny problem - The TRAFFIC!!! anyways well written post.
Kapil's getting all economical. Haha. That's exactly what we're studying in economics. There are so many ways to reduce these problems, and Dubai's actually doing quite well with it. The Dubai Metro will be a huge leap. Trust me, the cars on the roads will lessen greatly.
Also the public transport currently existing liike the public buses and taxis. There's no problem with the buses I'm aware of, but the taxis. Oh what an issue.
My Mom's friend once stood in a line of over 300 people just to get a taxi. She ended up walking back home. This is just an example of how limited the taxis are.
Some taxi drivers make up lame excuses like 'I'm sorry I'm going home/for dinner/for lunch' and half the people don't even get a taxi nowadays. This forces them to resort to private transport. I'm sure you know what this means. More cars, more mess, more pollution.
By the way. Whatever happened to the 'pink taxis'?
Yes, this country is ALSO unique. I mean it's not every country that has the entire world in their map. Or the tallest building. Or the largest man-made islands. Yes, there are so many problems to these as well. Leading to... more population, leading to more cars, more traffic, and more mess.
However, I love Dubai in my heart, even if it's only because of my home, friends and school. At least I love it. Congratulations, rulers of the Seven Emirates, and them United.

the traffic in dxb seems 2 be increasing day by day. i guess the metro will help but the funny part is that due to the construction of the metro, the traffic problem has worsened...lol. I agree about the whole taxis thing. many taxi drivers aren't willing to go a short distance (like bur juman to spinneys) and that's against the law. still, i love dxb...!!! nice post, good topic. byee.
Shalaka what you have said is really nice ....a very good comment...The point that the construction of the metro has led to more traffic ..but im guessing that by the time its done it will be fine ....
The no.of taxis in Dubai are very lw i totally agree ...It takes way too long to get a taxi and i must say that Nishant and Shalaka, nice of u to bring those points to my notice

totally agree...dubai is in a huge huge mess.there are so many buildings cumin up...traffic is increasing everyday.The metro will help to reduce traffic a lot, though it is causing more traffic now.
And the taxi problem is very true..it took me an hour to find a taxi!!!...*sigh*
but i love dubai and hopefully it will improve soon..

Yesterday it took me two and a half hours to get home. Left school at four and reached at six thirty.
What Shalaka said has been the thought itinerant in my mind for the past 3 months. The whole metro thing has caused more traffic. Sheesh! They’re just causing more and more problems.
Last term, my Dad discovered a new road. It's parallel to Dxb-Shj and Emirates road.. It was completely empty and I used to reach school in 30 minutes max. Now however, it's completely 'trafficified'. It takes double the time now. It's so irritating! I reach school late everyday, whether it’s by bus or car.
Nicely written post although it makes me wonder whether you're trying to get people agitated (like me) or become a newspaper reporter. :P
And Nishant. What kind of sense does ' I love Dubai in my heart ' make? *shakes head*
